I am a 26 year old female. I want to get a nose job to make it thinner and less bulbous. But I am also worried about the gap between my nose and mouth. It is about 1.8cm. Would you recommend a lip lift as well? Thanks
Answer: Rhinoplasty question about lip and lip lift Hi there,You ask a great question. Firstly, a rhinoplasty need not increase lip length. In you, it would be important not to shorten the nose in a rhinoplasty, in order to keep the nose lip proportions intact.Regarding a lip lift: I see why you are concerned. My gut feeling is the advise you to not consider a lip lift, for a variety of reasons. In truth, a lip evaluation in you cannot be made by these photos. It' s important to evaluate the entire face, the bony anatomy, your tooth show, your smiling patterns and to see how your lip fits your face dynamically rather than a static in repose close mouthed image. An in person consultation with an expert plastic surgeon in your ares specialising in facial surgery would be well worth your while. All the very best,Howard Webster

Answer: I'm considering a nose job but I'm worried about the gap between my nose and mouth. Will this make the gap worse? Thank you for your question and images. The distance between your nose and mouth does not need to be altered during rhinoplasty. Although in the images you have provided you appear to have a long upper lip it would be important to assess you clinically. Sometimes the images taken on your phone will distort the image centrally often making your nose look more bulbous and upper lip longer than it is. I also cannot see the amount of upper tooth display in your images, too short an upper lip may even produce a gummy smile. At your age I would be reluctant to suggest an upper lip lift as it requires a scar that follows along the base of your nose and is potentially visible. You otherwise appear to be a good candidate for a rhinoplasty.RegardsDr Guy Watts

Answer: Rhinoplasty I think your goals of achieving a thinner and less bulbous tip are very achievable.I wouldn't worry about the lip length, that won't change and I wouldn't recommend any surgery to lift it either.I hope this helps

Answer: rhinoplasty candidate The gap between the upper lip to the nose will not change with the rhinoplasty, unless the tip of the nose is lifted and shortened. In our practice, we do not recommended lip lift to unacceptable scarring that we have seen from that procedure performed elsewhere

Answer: Will nose surgery affect the nose-lip distance? Hi j0j088,To narrow down the bridge of your nose and tip for refinement is a straight forward procedure, but since you have a concern with your lip-nose distance, to obtain proper aesthetic proportion, the distance from the base of the columella to the tip should be almost equal to your lip-nose distance, so in your case, based from your photos, it appears that a slight increase in tip projection will balance out issue with your lip-nose distance, but if you are really concerned about your the nose-lip distance, then a conservative upper lip lift can be done.
