I have a cartilage lump/bump on the side of my nose. I have read that they are common and easy to remove?

Would the surgery be internal or external? It feels as if it is on the outside. Would it require another opening up of the nose as in rhinoplasty or can it be done externally? Worried about scar tissue. Does cartilage cause scar tissue?

Hi, Cartilage can be altered in a rhinoplasty, and the option of open and closed will be up to the surgeon and based on what needs to be done.  To fully answer the question we would need to see the issue, but yes it can most likely be addressed with a rhinoplasty.

From what you are saying it seems that you have some asymmetry of your nose due to a cartilage lump. If that is the case then the lump must be in the lower two thirds of the nose as the upper third is bone. If the cartilage lump is limited to the middle third of the nose then there is a fair chance that it can be dealt with using a closed approach that would leave no visible scars. If the lump is in the tip (lower third) of the nose then it is more likely that an open approach would be needed in which case there would need to be a small scar on the columella. Some photos would help but more particularly you should have a consultation with a surgeon experienced in rhinoplasty who could give you some direct guidance
