Is orbital decompression necessary in my case? Or is eyelid surgery enough? (Photo)

In the United States, craniofacial surgeon do not manage thyroid eye disease patients.  You need a fellowship trained oculfacial surgeon.  That is not sufficient qualifications.  You need to find someone who is actively managing thyroid eye disease patients.  These will generally be University based oculofacial surgeons in an academic department of ophthalmology or in a very specialized private practice.  For you, that will be someone in Austin, San Antonio, or Huston.  Take your pick because each community has excellent folks.  You have left upper eyelid traction and right Herring's law ptosis.  You may or may not need an orbital decompression.  Don't have one if you don't need it.  What you do need is a comprehensive assessment by the right oculofacial surgeon who can help you plan an appropriate course of rehabilitation for your specific situation.

Hi and thanks for the question.  You need to see a surgeon with experience in both eyelid surgery and orbital decompression for an honest and accurate opiniuon as it is impossible to answer this question accurately without a proper examination.  However, based solely on the photographs you provided, you appear to have mild to moderate exopthalmos on your left side and I believe you will need a 1 or 2 wall orbital decompression. This can be done open or in those skilled with nasoendoscopic  techniques (Usually ENT surgeons), could have it done endoscopically. In addition, you appear to have a mild bl;epharoptosis on the other side and may need to have a lid elevating procedure here to improve symmetry.
