Is it worth it to get a breast augmentation to go up only one cup size? (Photo)

A large percentage of patients in West Michigan are just looking for a bra cup increase on 1 cup size...They want it "to be worth it and see a difference, but not too large or look operated."  It is a tough line to walk sometimes.  I believe Vectra 3D imaging does the best to allow patients to "See their afters...before" and give them the best idea of what they can look like with different implant sizes and shapes.Shaped 410 Cohesive implants are often great option in patients that are looking for a modest increase and very natural breast augmentation outcome.  Moderate or Moderate Plus implants that have a broader base and less projection are also a good option.AS a general rule I would recommend a 250cc implant on the lower end and 350 higher end depending on your base width and tissue based planning if you want a visible size increase to see a difference but not too much of a change.  Remember most patients will say: "Im happy but wish I was a bit larger", so make sure it is for you and what range you are really wanting.Best!Dr Bengtson

Thanks for your question. I think you would get the result you want with an implant and not feel huge. Cup sizes are unfortunately quite subjective. I think you should meet with your surgeon and express your desires about not being too big. Looking at pictures that you like is helpful to communicate. Best of Luck!

I think that either imaging or showing your plastic surgeon a photo of your "want to be" breast will allow your surgeon to guide you in the decision between breast implants including size and shape/profile vs fat transfer.

Hi, it's not uncommon in my practice of a person to request just a modest change in their overall cup size.  If you are just looking for a modest increase in breast fullness, there is no reason you must choose larger implants than desired.

Selecting an implant is a very individual and personal decision. I would recommend spending time with your plastic surgeon addressing each of your concerns. Make sure that you are fully informed about the options available to you before proceeding with the surgery.

I hear this question frequently about wether it is worth it to use a smaller implant.  "Worth" in the case of breast augmentation is a positive aesthetic outcome. The goal is to achieve a desired look or cup size for a particular individual.  Breast aesthetics are very subjective and personal.  So, if you would like a result that fills out your current breast size a little bit, adds some fullness and firmness then an augmentation can be done with a smaller implant and it is "worth it" because you will be happy.  Added benefits of utilizing smaller implants are a quicker recovery and less post-operative discomfort.  However, it is very true that many patients after surgery express regret that they didn't choose a bigger size. Going up one cup size with a breast augmentation is common with our patients.  I encourage you to utilize an imaging system such as Vectra that can give you a good idea of the difference between the two sizes you are considering.
