Yes, you may still have some swelling from your injection, which can last for a few weeks after your injections. If you're unhappy with your final results, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. I recommend injections with cannulas to limit swelling. See an expert. One week is pretty early. I use Restylane, Beletero and Juvederm Volbella in the tear trough. Regular Juvederm is not often used. I would give it one more week. Sometimes filling the tear trough can accentuate the flatness of the mid face and transition area. It may be fine in a week but one week is too early to judge.

The very thin skin here makes tear trough filling very tricky. The consensus among experts is Restylane and Belotero are more preferred in this location. Juvederm is notorious for swelling in the tear trough and it lasts for years. I recommend you get it dissolved sooner rather than later. I even hyperblend some additional lidocaine with Belotero and Restylane to further reduce the unwanted complications of swelling or Tyndall effect.

Thank you for sharing your concern and your photos.  Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus are not ideal for the true tear trough as prolonged or delayed swelling leads to a festooned appearance.  In addition, it appears that you may have improperly superficially and medially placed filler.  Please return to your cosmetic dermatologist or plastic surgeon for re-evaluation.  The good news is this can be corrected with hyaluronidase, although it may take several treatments. Best of luck,Suneel Chilukuri, M.D. (refresh dermatology.com)Houston, Texas

This is not normal and it should be removed with hyaluronidase. When filling the tear trough, the whole cheek needs to be considered and filled. This looks like the provider tried to correct the tear trough but failed. Also, to further complicate matters, Juvederm was used which is the absolute wrong product for this area. It tends to swell for prolonged periods of time and better choices are Restylane, Refyne, or Belotero. I would see another provider for this area.

Some swelling in the under eye area is normal after a filler injection. The lower eyelid is very delicate and can have a tendency to swell.  This typically goes away after a few days, though sometimes it can last 1-2 weeks.  To conservatively address some lingering swelling, gentle massage to the area can be helpful.
If the fullness does not improve and you are not happy with the result, hyaluronidase (Hylenex) can be injected into the area to dissolve the Juvederm.
Also,mentioned by other answers, Juvederm is not an ideal filler for the under eye area.  The product tends to attract water, creating a more swollen effect (think of fuller lips after a Juvederm injection).
Belotero and Restylane are the only 2 products I inject in the under eye area.  With these products, you can get an enhanced contour of the under eye without the puffy/swollen effect.
The good news is that you have options to get to the result you are looking for.

Thank you for your question.  After 20 years of experience in injectables and cosmetic procedures, I can safely say that Juvederm should not be injected into the tear-trough.  It is too hydrophilic, which means it binds to water causing more swelling and edema in the area injected.  Typically that is the desired result for more mid and lower face to fill in deep hollows. I prefer to use Restylane in this sensitive area. The good news is the area might calm down but can also be dissolved at any time.Best,Ariel Ostad MD PC 

after using hyaluronic acid fillers for more than 22 years I can with confidence say that I don't believe that these products should be injected into the tear trough area in most individuals. As in your case I believe that the fullness will continue to enlarge itself as the muscles surrounding the area will push it towards that region. I would give it a little more time and most likely have hyaluronidase treatment administered as to decrease the size of the swelling. situation. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler designed to enhance the
appearance of the face. For the tear trough I prefer a softer fillers such as Volbella or Restylane as there is less swelling. With any fillers there is the possibility of lumps and bumps. I recommend that my patients gently massage the area 5 minutes at a time, 5 times per day, for the first 5 days. This will smoothen out any lumps. Juvederm has a high safety profile and can be dissolved if the results are not as desired. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

It is difficult to see exactly what is going on from the photos you submitted.  In general, swelling usually goes down about 5-7 days after injections, so 12 days seems a little unusual.  Injections in the tear trough area should only be done by a very experienced physician as this area requires a great deal of skill.  You can try vigorously massaging the raised areas when you are in the shower and your skin is warm.  If a hyaluronic acid based filler was used, this can sometimes soften the filler.  If that does not work, you may need to go to an advanced injector physician and have an enzyme injected that will dissolve the filler.  Best of luck to you.
