I started noticing this when I was around 28 and it has of course just gotten worse within time but there are small circles on the corners of my mouth that puff out and I’ve come to learn that these are perioral mounds. I have asked around Austin, TX at 2 different plastic surgeon offices and they don’t treat Lipo in this area. What is another Solution to get rid of perioral mounds?
Answer: Face No, this is not an area for liposuction because of the risk of nerve damage to your mouth. However, micro-needling with radiofrequency like Secret could be very helpful to tighten your tissue in that area. This excess is skin and not fat.

Answer: Effective Treatments for Perioral Mounds: Insights from Dr. Katzen Hi, thank you for your question regarding how to get rid of perioral mounds. I appreciate your history and the pictures you've provided. There are two main approaches to addressing perioral mounds, which are essentially accumulations of fat in the facial area. Most plastic surgeons, including myself, often recommend micro liposuction for these areas. This procedure can be performed under local, twilight, or even general anesthesia, depending on your preference and the surgeon's recommendation. Typically, it's an in-office procedure that lasts about 30 to 60 minutes. You should allow for a recovery period of 7 to 10 days, during which some bruising and swelling are expected. Another method for reducing perioral mounds is the injection of Kybella. Kybella is FDA-approved for treating submental fat in the neck area, so its use for perioral mounds would be considered off-label. It works by dissolving fat but can be unpredictable and may require several sessions to achieve desired results. Given these considerations, micro liposuction is generally the preferred option among most plastic surgeons for its predictability and effectiveness in removing perioral mounds. I hope this information helps to answer your question on how to treat perioral mounds effectively. Good luck on your journey to a more confident you. Sincerely, J. Timothy Katzen, MD, FASMBS, FICS Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeon

Answer: Perioral mounds Perioral mounds are poorly understood and not easy to treat, they do not represent excess fat do liposuction is not the correct treatment. The issue is primarily related to facial bone contour combined with tension of muscles of facial expressions and how the soft tissue drapes. Filler augmentation of surrounding areas may give some improvement, These are simply hard to treat and they are associated with certain facial shapes Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
