Rejuvapen vs SkinPen. Which is better and why?

Question

Anyone have experience with these microneedling pens (Rejuvapen and Skinpen)? Which one is better and why? I want to go to an office that provides microneedling with the best pen. I am not considering offices with other pens like Eclipse Micropen or Dermapen but if you think those are better than Rejuvapen or Skinpen, please let me know why. Thanks!

Thank  you for your question about micronpen treatments.  Microneedling is a great method to treat a myriad of things with little downtime.  It generally takes several treatments to see improvements in fine lines or acne scarring.  The addition of growth factors will often amplify the result.  In addition, adding PRP (platelet rich plasma) can improve the results even more.  This is the procedure of drawing your own blood, spinning it down to extract the PRP, and needling it into the skin.  As for the device used....Rejuvapen vs. Eclipse pen....is probably not going to impact your results.  Depth of needling and the amount of needles on the head of the pen are factors that can make an impact, in addition to the growth factor/PRP.  
To be sure, see two or more experienced, licensed and board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

Each Doctor will have their preferred microneedling device. With microneedling, I always combine with prp and lasers to have a more robust outcome. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. Best, Dr. Emer

I have used all 4 of the microneedling devices.  I feel that I have had better results with the Revapen.  I also think that it depends on the experience that the Physician or Nurse doing the treatment also helps.  I would consult with all offices and see their before and after photos.

Micro-needling motorized devices are basically the same.  Variables include the number of needles per head piece, the depth of needling and the speed setting.  Adding platelet rich plasma to the skin prior to the procedure should improve results.  Several sessions (usually more than two) are required to produce noticeable results albeit subtle. 
Different degrees of acne scarring require more aggressive treatments which may include but are not limited to resurfacing LASER, radio-frequency treatments, fat, Bellafill, Sculptra injections and the gold standard fo patients who are willing to undergo several days of redness (Dermabrasion or Phenol peel).
More than one treatment modality is typically required to obtain significant improvement in acne scarring.
Please consult in person with an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon prior to making treatment decisions.

Good morning and thank you for your question! Rejuvapen and SkinPen are both good microneedling devices. There are upsides to both of them. For example, SkinPen is the old version of Precision Pen, which is the only FDA-approved microneedling device on the market. It is battery charged so there is no cord to deal with during treatment. Rejuvapen has an attached cord which means it will not stop during a treatment due to a dead battery. Both have different ways to prevent cross-contamination. For example, Rejuvapen uses a barrier film and cord cover, whereas SkinPen uses a bio sleeve and an exhaust port to help prevent suction (which can cause broken capillaries). It is not only about which pen is used, but the technician that is using it. Be sure to visit a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to discuss the best options for you. It is not only the pen, it is the experience of the provider that is most important. We use three different pens in our office with Rejuvapen being one of them. There are several great medical microneedling pens available. I would recommend consulting and asking for before and after pictures, discuss the procedure with your provider, ask about their experience, and read the reviews...this is how you will really determine how the outcome of your treatment will be. I would also always encourage the patient to use PRP during their microneedling treatment. Hope this helps!!

There is no difference in the tools but in the way in which the clinician uses them. Deeper penetration with good chemicals like platelet rich plasma or hyaluronic acid are absorbed better when the needles are set to go deeper.  The downside is that there is more redness and crustiness for a few more days, perhaps about three.
