Correcting poorly done Liposuction is very difficult and sometimes it may not be possible to get much improvement. The amount of possible improvement depends on how the first procedure was done and how much fat there is left to work with. By far the most important variable is provider selection. If someone with the same skill level was to do a revision it is likely they would make the problem worse. Having a revision and ending up with the worst outcome is very real when it comes to secondary or revision Liposuction. It looks like there’s still some fat to work with so some improvements are possible. Finding someone who has approached mastery of Liposuction is not easy or straightforward. Almost all plastic surgeon will claim competence when it comes to this procedure. Everyone will tell you that they’ve done lots of Liposuction and are good at it, but in reality, most plastic surgeons are not very good at Liposuction. This is of course, my opinion. Delivering consistent quality Liposuction results turns out to be more difficult than most people realize. To find the right provider, I recommend patients have lots of consultations. Ideally, we should have in person consultations and avoid virtual consultations. When interviewing plastic surgeons bring a complete set of proper before and after pictures of yourself to use as a reference during the consultation. During each consultation, ask the provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before, and after pictures of previous patients lead similar body characteristics. In your case, you wanna ask the providers to show you examples of revision Liposuction cases of patients who had similar characteristics to your own. Revision liposuction is not nearly as common as primary procedures so even experience providers may have a limited number of revision examples. The best doctors to do revision Liposuction are the same doctors who do the best primary Liposuction procedures. Ask providers to share you at least 20 examples of previous Liposuction cases. Every plastic surgeon is going to have a few examples of good outcomes. The goal is not to see what the best results of the providers career looks like, but rather what average results look like especially people who have your candidacy for surgery. There’s no correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider. The more consultations you have the more likely you are to find the better provider. If you don’t scrutinize plastic surgeons carefully and have multiple consultations before choosing a surgeon for the chance of having a high-quality outcome goes down. I cannot emphasize enough, the importance of having multiple consultations before selecting a provider. Be careful with providers who think this is easy to fix. Revisional work is by its nature much more difficult than primary Liposuction procedures. Good luck to you, Mats Hagstrom MD
