I'm not really sure where you would place a drainage tube after liposuction. They are not part of the procedure. If liposuction is combined with an operation that creates a dead space such as an abdominoplasty some surgeons may choose to use them in this situation.
In my experience, post operative drains are not commonly used in liposuction. Usually compression is adequate to mitigate the risk of fluid collections and achieve a smooth post op contour. The exception is large volume liposuction and the use of laser liposuction. Larger volume aspirations using SmartLipo/Laser lipo tend to be more prone to collections. For patients with aspiration volumes greater than 1500cc (using laser), I will typically leave a single drain behind. However, protocols will vary from one practitioner to another. As always, discuss your concerns with plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons.
Thank you for sharing your excellent question. If only liposuction is being performed drains are not routinely placed. If however liposuction and say a tummy tuck is done then I typically use drains. Your surgeon will be able to offer you the best advice based on your specific procedure.
Drainage tubes are not used with liposuction alone. If you are having a tummy tuck combined with some liposuction in other areas, then you will have drainage tubes placed to assist in your recovery in the area of your tummy tuck alone. Check back with your doctor to make sure you did not misunderstand your plan of care.
I never use drain tubes with liposuction. If you have seen a surgeon who is recommending them, I would be suspect as to his or her expertise. You ideally want to see a board certified plastic surgeon with the training and expertise to safely deliver great results.
Hi there and thanks for posting,I am not aware of anyone using drains with liposuction alone. I will sometimes use drains when I am doing liposuction in conjunction with a TT, but not in a stand alone liposuction caseRichard
Generally speaking, drain tubes are not necessary after liposuction. Simple compression should suffice to relieve swelling and drainage, which usually lasts no more than 24-48 hours. Some patients with significant amounts of fat suctioned could conceivably warrant the use of a drain but this would be a rare circumstance.
Drains are not typically used in liposuction. You should consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck.
In the absence of any photos or an in person consultation the best I can answer you is in a general way. Options include, weight loss (if you are heavy set), buccal fat pad removal (to thin the mid face and accentuate your cheek bones), strategic liposuction of your neck and jaw line and eve...
No, this isn't a typical side effect of liposuction. If the hairs are dark, they can be treated with laser hair removal. It will take a series of treatments. See an expert for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer
It is too soon to tell what your final results will be. However you have what i call the "deflated balloon" look/ you were not a candidate for liposuction alone, you should have had skin removed at the same time. likely you have swelling which will last 3-6 months after your procedure. I rec...
Thanks for the question. It’s too early to comment over the result. First couple of weeks after the surgery you can back to work and couple of weeks later your permanent recovery will start. It’s possible to see some major changes in Liposuction results till the end of 12 months recovery....
