I have a droopy eyelid from Botox, question about Lopidine? And from the picture is there anything else I can do? (Photo)

Thank you for sharing your question and photograph and I am sorry to hear of your eyelid droop.  Iopidine drops offer only a temporary correction of the eyelid sagging created from Botox, with the only full correction being to allow enough time to pass so that the Botox wears off.  Hope this helps.

I'm sorry that this happened to you.  Lopidine can be used 2-4 times daily.  Fortunately it will help improve the appearance of the ptosis, but it is temporary as you described.  Good news is that the ptosis will continue to improve over the next few weeks as the botox wears off.  

Fortunately it will all go away eventually. Yes you do need to continue with the drops, they do not speed up the resolution of the botulinum toxin. I would ask what type of botulinum toxin they used. I see patients come in after having Dysport or Xeomin. These toxins are smaller size and can generally travel more from what I have seen.

 Lopidine will help improve the eyelid position for a temporary time. The idea is that Lopidine is allowing other muscles to take over the elevation of the eyelid. Unfortunately with Botox induced ptosis there's nothing that can be done other than wait for the Botox to be resorbed . I have seen this before and recommend exercising the muscles of the eye to try to push the Botox out faster. I hope this helps good luck

Hello & thank you for your question! I'm sorry that you had this result after treatment, but can assure you that it will resolve completely.  However, this will take a few weeks.  Keep using the drops daily to ensure this resolves as quickly as possible.

Dear heddabethyname:You can use the drops up to 4 times a day, but using it more often than that will not be effective. They do not cure the problem, but just make it better temporarily. It will improve after two to three weeks.In addition to careful placement into the targeted muscles, holding a thumb against the orbital rim while injecting and asking the patient to frown deeply after injecting while holding the thumb in the same position can help to prevent the migration into the muscle that holds the eyelid up.I do hope you do not have to suffer with this problem fir long.All the best,   Dr. Clark

You can use the drop as much as you want without side effects but based on how long it lasts, three times a day maximizes its effect. It is a temporary patch until the ptosis self resolves

Thank you for your question heddabethyname. Botox is a purified protein used to address wrinkles associated with
facial expression. A rare side effect of Botox is droopy eyelids which can be addressed with apraclonidine ophthalmic solution. I recommend that my patients use 2-3 drops to the affected eye 2-3 times per day. More is not better. The side effect normally resolves on its own after a few weeks. Please consult with a doctor for specific recommendations. Good luck!

This can rarely happen as the wrinkle blocker injected (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport etc.) can move to an area not intended.  It usually is short-lived (a few weeks) but can be longer (month or more).  Iopidine or Brimonidine may be safely used 2-3 x/day.  I wouldn't use more as this is not their intended use and they can have side-effects.  They were designed for glaucoma patients.  I have found that in some patients that develop the ptosis (drooping) that their eyelid was likely weaker and heading that direction and the wrinkle blocker pushed it "over the edge" so to speak.  Most of the time it fully resolves, but sometimes it can persist but this is very rare.  Avoiding blood thinners and pushing hard to areas around the eyes (especially) the brows will help reduce over spread.  Dysport spreads more than Botox or Xeomin, so for you may not be a good choice.  I would not recommend surgery for this as it should resolve.  Best regards.
