Bumps on lips 5 months after lip fillers, will they dissolve on their own? (photo)

Question

I have had lip fillers done by my dermatologist about 5 months ago, I noticed right away bumps on my lips I asked him about it but ge said it wasnt serious, now after 5 months the bumps are still there and I went to another dermatologist but she didnt want to inject any filler into my lips saying that those bumps need to go down or the profuct to fully disappear from my lips until I can have any more work done. My question is: will it disolve on its own with time or will those bumps stay there forever?

Hi Katharinnaxo, thanks for your question.  It seems that the "bumps" in your lips are a result of the fillers.  Lip fillers are usually made with hyaluronic acid.  This is a very moldable product and I always like to tell my patients that if they do feel a bump after being injected to massage their lips to smooth out any of the filler.  Depending on the product, lip fillers usually last 6-8 months or so depending on the person.  There is also a type of injection that can dissolve the filler and can be used to reverse the appearance of the lip augmentation.  I recommend consulting with a plastic surgeon for more information.  Hope this helps!

Hi and than you for your question! While some swelling and lumps are normal within the first 2 weeks following filler injection, that shouldn't last for this long. The key question is the type of filler your receive. If it's a hyaluronic acid filler (which is the main type of filler recommended for lips), it can be easily revised and resolved with enzyme injection. I hope it helps and good luck!

If the lumps were caused by filler, they will resolve as the filler dissolves. If you had HA filler, you can have it reversed with hyaluronidase and try a different technique next time. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

katharinnaxo.   If filler used was hyaluronic acid, then bumps can be dissolved with hyaluronic acid.  If the filler was silicone, then they may need to be surgically excised. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

I assume the filler was an HA. Depending on which HA was used the bumps could last up to a year. With that in mind , you may want to consider having the HA dissolved with Hyaluronidase and then reinjected at a later time.

I am not sure why you received that answer. it appears that the bumps are related to the filler. using a small amount hyaluronidase should get rid of these very quickly. This involves the injection of an enzyme that will dissolve the filler.
