Lip fillers - ridge above top lip: could filler injected above the ridge balance it out? (Photos)

Question

As a result of having lip fillers I have a ridge above my top lip, where, when the light shines on it, it looks like I have a 'milk moustache' I'm so pleased with my lips, the shape and size of them is perfect, but I was wondering if I could have filler injected above the ridge to balance it out?

Thank you for sharing your question and congratulations on your lip augmentation.  I see your area of concern but it appears that you recently had your filler placement.  Swelling of the lips is quite common due to the thin nature of the tissues and tends to improve steadily improve over the first 10-14 days.  It often takes up to 2 weeks for fillers to soften and the tissues to appear more natural.  I would recommend waiting for your results to mature before entertaining additional treatment.  In the meantime try reducing the swelling by using cold compresses to your lips and elevating your head at night with a couple of extra pillows behind your back.  You may want to also consider using Arnica Montana and bromelain as supplements.  Hang in there!

Amy,Depending on the type of filler used there is a varying degree of swelling that occurs in the lips. Furthermore, the duration of swelling also depends on the type, amount, and technique of filler placement. Often swelling takes up to 2 weeks to settle before a final outcome can be determined. If the filler used belongs to the hyaluronic acid (HA) family and you are still seeing this ridge two weeks after injection and desire reductive augmentation, hyaluronidase can be used to slowly dissolve a bit of the filler to setback the ridge. Massaging judiciously during this period can assist as well. Adding additional filler over the ridge is not recommended as it will throw off the harmony to the lips. Communicating with your injector is always recommended to ensure an optimal outcome!
