Will veneers stay forever? #DrSoftTouch
Porcelain veneers can last a very long time with proper home care and maintenance. I offer a 10 year warranty on veneers and crowns that I do and in the last 10 years that I've been providing cosmetic dentistry a patient has not needed to use it. I'm not aware of any dentist giving a lifetime warranty. I would recommend speaking with your dentist to clarify this if you are unsure of the conditions of your agreement. I hope this helps. When patients ask me if something will last forever, I ask them if they know of anything that lasts forever. If you were 70 and you just got your veneers, I might say they would last forever. If you're less than 50, I would not say they would last forever. Having said that, you'll get many many years of nicer teeth and a lifetime warranty to boot! Nothing wrong with that!
How long will veneers last
The main reasons why veneers have to be replaced are:
1. Gum recession either due to gum disease or age. If your gums show when you smile, you most likely have to replace the veneers when the roots of the teeth start to show.
2. Cavity. You still can get a cavity on where the veneer meets your tooth. Therefore, your home care and getting your teeth examined and cleaning on a regular basis is very important.
3. Fracture: If you bite on something that would normally chip your teeth, can chip or fracture your veneer, whereby the veneer has to be replaced.
The porcelain does not break down over time, it is most due to the above reasons why veneers have to be replaced.

Porcelain veneers can last a very long time if they were placed and bonded properly, if your occlusion(bite) is correct and does not compromise them when you slide your teeth forward and side to side, if you do not clench or grind your teeth in your sleep, and if you brush and floss properly and see your dentist for recommended dental cleaning and check of your veneers on a regularly scheduled basis. A custom fitted nightguard is strongly recommended to protect them during your sleeping hours. All that being said, the lifetime guarantee your dentist gave you is only as good as for how long he continues to practice in the location where he provided the service. If he relocates or retires, the guarantee probably ends unless he has made some arrangements with the next owner of the practice. I am not aware of any dentists giving "lifetime" guarantees on porcelain veneers or any other dental services. There are just too many variables that are not under the control of the dentist. What other products or services are guaranteed for your lifetime? I would ask. your dentist for a written guarantee so that if something should happen to your veneers while he Is still practicing, you are not surprised by some unexpected additional expenses.
