I am 140lbs, 5'8" and 20 years old, so I'm not overweight, but I have developed neck folds when I am not looking up at an angle. I pretty much never have a defined jaw line. Is this fat, skin or something else? And what can I do about it?
Answer: Neck folks when looking down When looking forward, your neck looks very attractive. For a neck like yours, I never recommend surgery to patients. You should be conscious about looking down or exaggerating the appearance of the folds of course. My patients with a neck like yours typically are happy with the results of non-surgical treatments like micro-liposuction and Ultherapy. This will NOT change the folds you seen when you flex your neck and exaggerate the area - That's NOT the point. The point is to tighten the skin and get less aging as the years go on.later on, if the skin gets saggy (with you looking forward), you can inquire about surgical treatments.

Answer: Double Chin Treatment / Laxity-- SmartLipo/VASER/ThermiRF, Botox, Venus Legacy, Kybella Double Chin Treatment / Laxity-- SmartLipo/VASER/ThermiRF, Botox, Venus Legacy, KybellaI treat this everyday in my practice. You may be a surgical candidate but you do not need surgery for improvement. Properly performed liposuction with energy based devices and physical fat removal will do fantastic to remove the fat, lift the skin, and contour the jawline. I pretreat everyone with Botox 1-2 weeks before surgery to relax the neck muscles, allowing for better retraction of the skin after surgery. Then after treatment we do skin tightening with Venus Legacy to improve the results and decrease the neck swelling. I suggest you only see an expert for treatment of this area as a meticulous surgeon is required to get great results and complications in this area can be devastating both medically and cosmetically. A new medication that is used to remove chin fat with injections called Kybella may also be an option, as it secondarily allows for skin tightening/lifting as well. A formal consultation is needed to determine what are the best options for you. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Why do I have neck folds and what can I do about it? When you bend your neck down getting the chin closer to the chest, the skin has to fold. Think about it......if the skin were tight in that position you would not be able to lift your head or bend your neck back. You are normal.
