I had a submuscular implant breast augmentation and after 10 days of my surgery, my PS told me that I have to massage my breasts (displacement exercises) for 20 minutes 4 times a day. Until when is it neccesary because a month has passed and I a feel my breast very soft and I think they are quite settled. And it is so boring!! 20 minutes four times a day is a to much for my daily routine (work, study). Furthermore, i am currently going to the kinesiologist for ultrasound.

Answer: Massage after Breast Augmentation Every surgeon has a unique post operative guideline based on their training, experience, and knowledge. These guidelines are tailored to the technique used. Best would be to follow your surgeons guidelines to get the results you expect from the surgeon you chose. My patients start massaging seven days after surgery but this may change based on the individual case.

Answer: Post Op Massage Hello,Thank you for your question. I personally do not advise massage for my patients in most cases. Each Plastic Surgeon has their own, preferred protocols. I recommend that you let your Plastic Surgeon know how you feel and ask them if you can reduce the amount. All the best

Answer: Massage of Breast Implants Congratulations on your surgery! The idea used to be that massage and displacement of the implants kept the capsule around the implant softer, preventing capsular contracture. We actually know now that that is not true. Evidence has proven it does not help. That being said, every plastic surgeon has different preferences and it is always best to follow your surgeon's guidelines!Best of luck to you!

Answer: I don't tell patients to massage themselves after surgery... Hello, You should always follow your surgeon's guidelines. I personally do not tell my patients to get massages, specially when implants are placed under the muscle, due to how easy it is to undermine the submuscular plane more than what the original pocket was, and cause an implant to go higher than expected or out of position. Good luck on your recovery, Dr. Fernandez Goico
