Hi I have placed butt implants about 2 years ago. . After a couple months it looked very weird from the side profile, its pointy and not round. From the back it looks normal but from the side it's hideous. I contacted the surgeon about it but he tells me that it looks normal. He also told me that you can't remove butt implants, but only replace it. Since the muscle is stretched and there would be too much space left. Is this true or can I do something about it? Im willing to travel far!!
Answer: Weird looking (?round) butt implants Allow me to answer your question as best i can based upon your photos. However, please keep in mind that an in-person, or at least a virtual, consultation with physical exam is first necessary before any legitimate evaluation or final surgical recommendations can be made. That being said, it appears as though you may have the classic pointy (“gum drop” deformity) appearance of round implants. The problem with round implants is that they are not anatomically correct. The gluteus muscles that are being augmented with buttock implants actually are an oval shape, not round. Therefore round implants are often shorter than the entire gluteus muscle length and this causes the pointy side profile view problem. Hence why in 2015 I created and then patented a new "Stanton Anatomic®️" ovoid shaped buttock implant that avoids the unnatural effects of round implants, whether made of silicone gel or rubber. The benefit of this is the fact that nearly 100% of humans have much more of an oval shaped buttock muscles not round, thus a true oval implant (i.e. Stanton Anatomic implant) creates a much more natural and harmonious buttock contour. This is especially true when the patients bends over, does squats, or pokes their butt out while striking a pose or dancing. So, often what is necessary in cases like yours is to remove your round implants and replace them with more anatomically correct implants such the Stanton Anatomic®️ buttock implants. Please note that an extremely few number of board certified plastic surgeons specialize in these buttock implants, so you may need to travel far and away from home to find this particular surgeon. Glad to help.

Answer: Gluteal implants I’m not sure what the standard is in Europe. In the United States the great majority of plastic surgeons do not offer gluteal implants. There’s a good reason for this. Gluteal implants have a very high complication rate and high incidence of poor patient satisfaction. It’s unlikely your implant was truly placed intramuscularly. It is true that when placing a gluteal implant especially if the implant is placed at the muscle level not inside the muscle such as sub fascial then the space is created that separates the skin and fat from the underlying muscle tissue. when the implant is taken out the skin and fat layer can drop due to gravity creating an undesirable appearance. The skin and the fat layer can be reattached to the muscle during surgery in the correct anatomic position minimizing the chance of this happening if you are in the hands of a sufficiently talented provider. It is not easy because the procedure is generally done with patients laying on their abdomen where gravity is having a very different pull on the tissues. There’s a very good reason why most plastic surgeons in the United States don’t do the procedure. The negative outcomes and complication rates are very high unless it is done in a very particular matter by those who have a mastered this procedure which is very few providers. There are a handful of plastic surgeons who often post on this website who specialize exclusively in gluteal implants. One is in Southern California. Gluteal implants is simply a procedure I don’t recommend anybody undergo. If someone is absolutely sad and having this procedure and they should find providers to focus exclusively and gluteal implant augmentation, places the implants intramuscularly and uses implants of appropriate size that will fit inside the gluteus muscle. The procedure can be done with success including my patient satisfaction but the number of patients who actually have long-term good results is unfortunately very small. Finding a sufficiently talented provider is going to be difficult. I don’t know the European providers or what the standards are like in various countries. In general I do not recommend patients have virtual consultations or travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. I recommend patients have at least five in person consultations before choosing a provider. In your case you may be forced to travel because the number of providers who do these procedures well is few. Perhaps you’ll get a better response by another provider who is a gluteal implant expert. There are not very many of them. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
