Can my submuscular saline implant leak 2 1/2 weeks post-op? I'm afraid my implant may be slowly leaking.

Thank you for your question.  Different sensations are quite common early after surgery.  These usually resolve with time.  A ruptured saline implant is not usually a subtle finding.  If the implant is ruptured, it will deflate and look and feel significantly different than the other one.  Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. A saline implant could rupture 2 weeks following surgery, but this would be highly unusual. The feelings your describing are the nerves and their ability to come back following surgery. The breasts shift, drop, and change over 6 months and each breasts changes differently. If your implant ruptures, it will totally flatten.

While it is possible that your implant is leaking, it sounds more like you are having abnormal nerve sensations. If your implant truly is leaking, the volume will continue to decrease.

the nice part about a saline implant leak or rupture is that it will go flat usually in a very short period of time so there will be no doubt in a couple of days. That said it would be very unusual for your implants to be leaking unless there was a problem at the time of surgery so check with your surgeon.

It is hard to say what is going on, but it would be very rare for a saline implant to leak so close to surgery.  Some local factor in the breast (nerve healing, scar tissue, fluid, etc.) is a more likely explanation for what you are experiencing.  It is always a good idea to talk to your surgeon about your concerns, especially during the first weeks after your procedure.  Best of luck.
