I have diastasis recti big time. I'll get a TT hopefully in July. Is there any benefit to strengthening the transverse abs and attempting to close the gap by exercise/splint wearing prior to surgery? Would it increase healing of the muscle and reduce my recovery time? Or am I just wasting my time?

If your concern is primarily to harvest fat and it's not an large amount of fat, then the changes will probably be minimal. But if you're doing it to improve the contour of the abdomen, then you should expect loose stretched skin to remain that way. It may not hang any more than it does...
