Is this a error on the parts of the person injecting? these pictures frighten me to the point of not wanting to try it. Trying to get some clarification. If it isn't the injectors errors what causes some of these reactions? How does Botox metabolize out of the body? have a gene defect that interacts with liver enzymes, and causes certain medications to not metabolize out of my system they actually amplify. Will this put me at risk for complications? Please advise! Also have chronic dry eye

All procedures involve risk of complications and poor outcome, including Botox. Complications are usually due to provider but it may also be due to patient factors including non-compliance with instructions. This is an elective, cosmetic procedure. If you are concerned, I advise that you do not try it.

Botulinum Toxin is available in several forms, the most common are BOTOX and Dysport.  The two are very similar.  They act by blocking the production of a chemical in the junction between the nerve and the muscle that creates muscle contraction.  The nerve has a supply of that chemical that runs out after 3 or 4 days.  That nerve ending ceases to function and new nerve endings grow out after a few months returning function to that small segment of muscle and allowing function of that muscle to return to normal.  Regarding asymmetric results or brow droop:  This is the result of injections that don't balance function between muscles that raise the brow (Frontalis) and muscles that suppress the brow (Procerus and Corregator).  Over injection of the frontalis muscle and/or under injection of the Procerus muscle will result in the droop.The bottom liine is that the person who injects needs to understand the underlying anatomy and chemistry of the product being injected.  In my practice, I do not let the nurse inject, but do all the injections myself.
