Thank you for your question.Alexandrite laser is a 755 nm wavelength. Mostly used for skin types I-III. There are couple of companies that make lasers with this wavelength. My office uses Cynosure Elite MPX dual wavelength technology suitable for all skin types. This is an award winning workstation in lasers.Cynosure is a leading company in lasers. Company such a as Candela, Epicare lasers also exist. How to choose the right place? My only advice is to research about the laser that the office uses, their experience and professionalism. Referrals are important as well.Good luck.Dr. Oleg Vinson
Hello, thank you for your question. Alexandrite is a wavelength of light. (755nm), there are several manufactures of lasers with this wavelength. The question that you need to be asking is; does the facility you choose have the correct wavelength to treat your skin type. Alexandrite is best for skin types I-III and the NdYag (1064nm wavelength) is best for skin types IV-VI. This is the important question to ask, there are facilities that will use the alexandrite on darker skin types and just turn the energy down low so that it does not burn the patient. Turning the energy down is not as efficient as using the proper wavelength to treat the skin type.Good Luck!
We use Candela Gentelase 755 laser with great results. A good laser is one part of the equation, but an experienced operator is the other part. Find a place and physician that has a lot of experience. Ask around for recommendations from friends can be a great place to start.
Hair growth can occur if not enough energy is used to treat the hair. For darker skin types a 1064 laser is the best choice. For lighter skin patients a alexandrite 755 is the best choice. I would go to an experienced physician provider to discuss your concerns.
The choice of laser is very much dependent on your skin. The Fitzpatrick scoring system is the classic method in which your skin and reaction to sun is determined. If you are a class I-III, an Alexandrite Laser might be the best choice. If you are a IV and above, the ND:YAG would be safe...
Laser hair removal offers permanent results but only a fraction of the hair follicles are susceptible to treatment at any given time. That is why multiple treatments are needed. We typically start with recommending a bundle of 5 treatments for patients that have not had prior laser hair removal.
