I'm in the process of getting laser hair removal (just had my first session last week). I'm having my bikini, underarms, and upper lip done. Since it's almost summer, I want to be able to lay out at the pool (not use a tanning bed.) I put 35 spf sunscreen on my face, but I usually only use an 8 spf on my arms, legs, and chest. Is this sufficient to prevent any burns or discoloration from the laser treatment? How long before and after treatment should I avoid the sun?

We treat the upper body every 4-6 weeks and the lower body every 10-12 weeks. You could be seeing a difference because of different lasers being used. As long as you are 4-6 weeks for upper body you should be fine.
Thank you for your question. You should be ok to go to the beach however it’s best to consult with your doctor. Please make sure you get a in person consultation from a board-certified dermatologist.
