Can a septum hole (perforation) caused by a nose job become larger with time ?

Thank you for the question. Septal perforations are a known complication after surgery on the septum. In fact, surgery is the most common cause of a septal perforation. Every surgeon hates to see one develop in one of our patients, but it happens sometimes. The good news is that if the perforation is asymptomatic, then there is nothing that needs to be done. After a year or so, the perforation is unlikely to get larger. Keeping the nose well hydrated with nasal saline sprays and Vaseline or Aquaphor can help. Another very important thing is to avoid touching the perforation. Do not use q-tips or your fingers to try and clean around the perforation.
