I LOVED my radiesse. I was very very happy with my broader cheeks. Not only did she get it EXACTLY how I would want it, there was NO bruising. The next day I went to the dentist to fill my cavity. I have done it once before with absolutely NO problem, no swelling. He did the numbing shot and immediately my right side of my face swelled so horribly I couldn't open my mouth. Can getting a numbing shot in the upper back of the mouth affect how the radiesse settles? Will it be shifted?
Answer: Dental Work and Filler I always suggest my patients to avoid any filler or facial cosmetics for 2 weeks before and after dental work, this is because there have recently been some reports of infection. although your story doesn't sound like the dental work had any effect on the filler itself. I suggest seeing your dermatologist or plastic surgeon for advice. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Can numbing shot from dentist affect Radiesse treatment from the day before? A numbing shot from a dentist placed in the back of the mouth should not affect a Radiesse treatment to the cheeks that was done the day before. It is possible that manipulation of your mouth by your dentist could affect results, but most likely I would suspect that after the swelling from your dental appointment goes down, your cheeks will look fine again. In the future, it may be best to have the dental work done before the Radiesse treatment or wait a week after the Radiesse before seeing your dentist.

Answer: Dental work after fillers It is usually best to avoid dental work for at least a week after having fillers injected. This is for two reasons. The first is that a particular type of infection that is very difficult to treat callled biofilms has been reported which is apparently due to the inadvertent seeding of bacteria in the filler during or after the procedure. When dentists numb the mouth, htey inject through the bacteria-laden oral cavity, potentially placing bacteria within or near the filler. The other reason is that one does not want anymanipulation of the filler which might displace it.I am not sure why you swelled up so severely but some patients are allergic to the anesthetic the dentist uses. How did things work out for you?

Answer: #Radiesse - Can a numbing shot from a dentist do something awful to the Radiesse ? It's hard to say for sure.In theory, simply injecting some local anesthesia shouldn't affect filler once the filler is set - but at one day it may still have been malleable. I generally advise patients to avoid dental procedures for at least a week or so (without hard scientific evidence as basis) to avoid a situation such as this. The potential problems extend beyond just the local - there's the pressure of the dentists hands on your face, the possible bleeding and bruising, etc. At this point you'll need to just let it settle down on its own, possibly along with taking an anti-inflammatory (speak with your plastic surgeon about this before you do anything) and then, eventually, go back to your PS and see what if anything can be done.I hope that this helps and good luck,Dr. Alan EnglerMember of RealSelf100

Answer: Can a dentist appointment move filler Radiesse injected into the cheek area should not be affected by dental work. The issue with the numbing shot is more likely due to the nerve that was injected there. But you should be ok in a few days. It's usually best to wait about a week between dental work and fillers.
