Hello. I have consulted with 3 plastic surgeons for breast augmentation. I am deciding between two of them, very tough decision. One of them said I had to stop ALL supplements prior to surgery. No big deal, EXCEPT I LOVE my Fenugreek supplement. It just gives me energy and makes me feel balanced. The other said Fenugreek would actually support recovery. Which do you agree with? THANKS!

Answer: Evidence based decisions Fenugreek, like virtually all supplements and vitamins, has not been shown to provide any health benefits. Any that you perceive are because of placebo effect. On the other hand, there are many supplements and vitamins that interfere with biologic processes that are important during surgery. Stop taking any supplements and vitamins for at least one month prior to surgery and a few weeks after. Preferably, you don't start taking them again.

Answer: Fenugreek Every surgeon has their own protocols for how to manage vitamins and supplements around surgery to optimize your results. In your specific case, fenugreek has been shown to delay clotting, which could potentially increase bleeding. This could increase your risk of blood around the implant and capsular contracture. In the end, I would follow the advice of the surgeon you choose.
