How Long To Wait Until Alcohol After Rhinoplasty?

Question

I had a Rhinoplasty 5 and a half weeks ago as well as a nasal graft placed. I was wondering if having 5 beers or a bottle of wine would have terrible affects on my surgery. I know that it will increase swelling, but I am just wondering if it will ruin the surgery I had done and cause me to have another surgery to repair it. I've been drinking/socializing with my friends a few times already and had a fair amount to drink: 5 beers is my maximum. I haven't fallen or done any physical harm to my nose.

Thanks for the question. I advise my patients to start drinking alcohol, coffee  5-7 days after their rhinoplasty surgery. Therefore you should consult with your surgeon for a reminder form before surgery. I wish you all the best.

It may be safe for you to drink now but you should ask you surgeon for their advice as they may have different guidelines.

I suggest waiting until 1 week following surgery for alcohol consumption. Alcohol does thin the blood, and is a risk for bleeding and bruising if used early. You should of course ask your surgeon to confirm his/her recommendation.
