Hi, I had a muscle repair over 6 months ago from the navel down. Pre surgery it measured at 3.5cm and I went for an ultrasound yesterday and it measured 2cm. Is this an acceptable gap within normal perimeters or did the plastic surgeon mess up? Or could it still be scar tissue between the muscles showing as a 2cm gap?

Answer: Up to 2 cm is normal up to 2 cm is normal, But if you want to perform more plication it can be done by laparoscopy with the ELAP technique. Endoscopic Lipoabdominoplasty (ELAP) is a novel surgical technique that combines liposuction and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with minimal incisions and endoscopic assistance. It is designed to improve the appearance and function of the abdominal wall by removing excess fat and repairing the muscle separation (diastasis recti ) or hernia. An internal corset (muscle plication) is performed .Only three mini incisions are used, a large wound is not made as in conventional abdominoplasty.
