It should feel supportive and snug, but not tight to the point where the circulation is cut off. If you have concerns about your garment, please speak with your surgeon.
Generally speaking, compression garments are designed to provide support to the surgical site and reduce swelling. If the garment is excessively tight, it can actually hinder circulation. It is not supposed to be uncomfortably tight. I use the term “gentle compression” with my patients. Discuss this with your surgeon. Best wishes to you.
Thank you for your question. Swelling in the first week after surgery is quite common. It's best to follow your surgeons specific advice post-operatively. We typically have our patients wear compression garments on the areas treated to help the skin and underlying tissues re-adhere as well as reduce swelling. However, if you garments are too tight they can restrict lymphatic drainage and blood flow leading to more swelling and complications. I'd highly suggest you contact your surgeon's office regarding your plan. Best of luck!
Compression garments are helpful after surgery. They help to control swelling and support tissues as they heal. Compression garments should fit snugly and feel supportive. They should not feel restricting or cut off blood supply. If you are unsure if yours is fitting correctly, check with your surgeon.
