I'm 40 yrs old. I'm 5'5". I weigh 240lbs. I was told by Dr that I am a 44ddd. I fill a 38dd plus some extra. I want to go down to a full c. How much should be removed?
Answer: Breast Reduction Tissue Removal? Congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. I understand your concern regarding the amount of tissue to be removed and the resulting breast size; online consultants will not be of much help to you when it comes to accurate predictions. If I were seeing you in consultation, I would ask to look at goal photographs; after doing so, I will be able to help you with a prediction With the goal of improving communication with my patients I find the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as “proportionate” or “full C cup” means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful. Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. My best suggestion: select your plastic surgeon carefully. Then, communicate your goals carefully. Avoid using cup sizes as a reference point. Working together you will be able to make good decisions. Best wishes.

Answer: Don't get mad at me, but... ...my advice is to lose weight prior to your surgery. I know it's easy to say, but there is a reason I am saying this. You will get a better result and your surgery will be safer. You are at 14x the risk for wound healing complications and potential infections with a BMI greater than 35 (yours is 40). I also know your breasts would change with the amount of weight loss that would be best for you. I would encourage you to get down to at least 200 lbs and preferably 180 lbs before we did your surgery. 850 and 900 grams is a lot of tissue BTW. Hope this helps and just know I am saying this with best intentions.-JGH

Answer: Breast reduction As you can see from the difference between what you think you are and what the doctor thinks you are this can sometimes be a highly subjective measurement. I often have patients who told me they've been measured at Victoria's Secret And are several cup sizes larger than what I estimate them to be. The most important thing is to find a board-certified plastic surgeon you're comfortable with and can communicate with. Sorry I can't be more precise.
