I am a female suffering from hair thinning on my crown. I have heard that capillus 272 is not effective though it has more laser diodes. I am planning to buy a laser cap. Please help me
Answer: Laser-cap Female pattern hair loss or genetic alopecia is the most common reason of hair loss in women and it is more common than it is thought to be. 25% of the women at the ages of 35-40, 50% of the women at the ages above 40 suffer from hair loss. 20% of the women with hair loss have a positive relative who suffered/is suffering from hair loss. Other reasons of hair loss are: Hypo- and hyper-tiroidism (hair loss may be one of the early signs of thyroid dysfunction, and hair loss stops after treatment); polycystic ovarian syndrome (an inherited ovarian disease, seen in 10% of the women during adulthood); pregnancy-related hormonal changes (temporary hair loss which can be seen during pregnancy stops after birth).. The reason of the hair loss may be external factors, connective tissue disorders such as stress, anemia, lupus, medications, hormonal and seasonal changes, nutritional problems, severe diets, bulimia, protein/calorie deficiency, zinc and essential amino-acid deficiency, mal-absorption (intestinal and digestive problems), A-vitamin excess, general anesthesia, affective mood disorders. So you have to have a full exam with an hair surgeon, internalist and/or endocrinologist to find out any reason for hair loss.

Answer: Laser Cap vs Capillus? I have not seen a Consumer's Report review so it is hard to know. Laser Cap was invented by a doctor and is only sold through physician's offices (including mine). I have seen devices that have many features such as a built-in timer, a lithium battery so it can be portable, etc. My sense is that more lasers are better but clearly the geometry of the cap/helmet dictates the amount of lasers that can fit so there is a maximum. The FDA approval that concluded these devices work presumably was based on weaker units so both units probably work well. Even so, and I like these units, they are only effective in 35-45% of patients. For the same money, PRP is much more effective.

Answer: Laser cap and hair loss Typically, the low level laser light with the highest diode would be more effective. This is taking into account that the laser is used properly by staying within the parameters set by the manufacturer. Most of laser combs and blushes do not provide adequate energy to your scalp. More potent laser machines like Laser Cap can give you enough laser to make a difference and that is what we recommend.

Answer: 272 The more diodes the more effective. We use the Capillus RX which is by prescription and has more diodes and use it in conjunction with prescription medications. Please feel free to ask any questions.

Answer: Laser caps In theory, the more diodes, the better the laser; however, these are expensive and they really have not shown value. For women with thinning we have been treating them with Scalp Micropigmentation, see below
