Can you have your belly button pierced after tummy tuck? (Photo)

Question

I had a full tummy tuck July 2012 with no complications and I don't have hernia. My belly button is not numb but around the scar has decreased sensation. I added a recent picture of it. You can't see the details fully, but my belly button has a little area of skin at the top (almost like a hood of skin) making it look a little more naturalistic and giving plenty of room for a piercing. Can you get piercings when there is scar tissue from a reconstructed belly button?

Congratulations on choosing an excellent plastic surgeon who gave you a very good looking belly button.  Many of my patients have had their belly buttons pierced one year after a tummy tuck, and I have never seen any complications.  All that being said, it would be appropriate to contact your personal plastic surgeon and ask his or her opinion.

Thanks for your question.  It should be possible in most cases to have an umbilical piercing after a tummy tuck.  You could always run it by your plastic surgeon in case there were any specific concerns in your case.

Hello, Thx for write us.In your case, there is no problem with belly buttom piercinig after TT,I recommend you take special care with hygiene in this area, and permanent observation, because as having decreased sensation, any injury may go unnoticed.

Yes you can.  Many of my patients go on to get piercings and tattoos without problems.  But best to ask your PS first.

Yes you can have your belly button pierced after a tummy tuck, but as you say yourself , the area is not numb but has a little less sensation, so you must just be extra vigilant regarding infections post piercing.It might also be a little harder for the piercer to get the needle through the scar tissue at the time of piercing, so you should tell them what you have had done.Looks like a really nice result, good luck
