Over 2 years ago, I had Dysport administered to my upper lip for lip lines. Could I have nerve damage?

It would be highly, highly unlikely that there would be permanent damage from a neurotoxin injection in the lip. Neurotoxin works locally and its effects typically wear off within 3-4 months. While I always say that anything is possible in medicine, I would look for other reasons for nerve dysfunction before I reached a conclusion that the neurotoxin was to blame.

Hello, and thank you for your question. Dysport, just like Botox, works in the same way. They temporarily block the signal from nerves to muscles at the treatment site. For cosmetic procedures, the dosage is significantly smaller compared to doses used for musculoskeletal disorders. Therefore, cosmetic Dysport doses are not typically associated with nerve symptoms, and its effects should wear off within 3-4 months.

I recommend consulting with a neurologist to address your concerns. In the future, only seek treatments from a reputable, experienced injector. These specialists can select the most appropriate product for your needs, select the right dilution of that product, determine the right dosage to inject, and know precisely where to inject to ensure the best possible results.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.  Dysport, like Botox, works at the neuro muscular junctions.  Unfortunately, it is above my pay grade to tell you whether you have nerve damage, muscle damage or a combination, but at this time, it would be appropriate to contact the company that sells Dysport and find out if other patients have had similar problems.Neither Dysport nor Botox are FDA approved for injection into lips, and unfortunately this is a cautionary tale for anyone considering paralyzing agents being injected into their lips.
