I've damaged my earlobes (both sides) by wearing fashion earrings that caused an infection. I then tried to wear my gold earrings which were super heavy causing my earlobes to become elongated. It looks like I'm a candidate for earlobe repair/reconstruction. I'd like a bit more information regarding the procedure and overall cost. Thank you.
Answer: Earlobe Repair for stretched piercing Earlobe repair is a common procedure in our plastic surgery office. I employ a technique that involves removing the excess scar tissue and reapproximating the tissue planes in multiple layers to recontour the earlobe after gauges, torn earlobes, or stretched out earlobes. Sometimes, the same procedure is used to restore contour to a pixie ear after facelift surgery or facial surgery. Gauge correction is a popular treatment. Insurance typically does not cover the procedure in California, but it all depends on your insurance policy. Costs are typically between six hundred dollars and one thousand dollars depending on the complexity of the repair. Pixie ear repair involves correction of the facelift flap and is a more complex procedure that requires anesthesia. Aftercare for earlobe repair involves proper wound care, Plato’s Scar Serum at least twice daily, with repiercing of the earlobe if requested, in 6 weeks. It is best to have a plastic surgeon perform the procedure and help with scars in the post-procedure period. Plato’s Scar Serum, wound care, and Neosporin are used. Answer: Easy Procedure, Usually Not Expensive This procedure is very simple, in office procedure that can be done under local anesthetic. Typically it involves excision of the skin edges and reapproximation. Sutures remain one week and then can be removed. Need to wait at least 6 weeks, sometimes 12 before getting your ears re-pierced. While cost can vary, you can typically find a provider to do this for $1000 or less per earlobe.

Answer: Am I a candidate for earlobe repair? Hello, And thank you for the question. Based on your photo, you appear to be a good candidate for earlobe reconstruction surgery. It can sometimes be covered by insurance. It is usually safe to re-pierce the earlobes 6-8 weeks following earlobe repair surgery. I typically recommend to re-pierce right next to the preexisting scar because the tissues are the strongest there. I suggest that you seek an in person consultation with a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon for best cosmetic results. I hope this helps. Answer: Am I a candidate for earlobe repair? It appears that there is an elongated primary piercing hole in the ear lobe. This is a very common situation and sometimes the tear goes completely through the ear lobe. To repair this is a relatively simple procedure that most plastic surgeons perform commonly. It can be performed with a local anesthesia and consists mainly of sewing closed the hole. In order to do that, the surgeon must trim the edges of the hole to allow it to adhere when sutured together. In my practice, sutures are out in six days. We repierce the earlobe after about six weeks. Most patients find this a relatively simple process.
