I accidentally took fish oil (one day only) the day before upper and lower eyelid surgery. The surgeon asked me if I had, and she wasnt too happy about it. Could it cause damage to anything, or just cause more bleeding and bruising ?
Answer: Took Fish Oil the Day Before Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery? Thank you for your question. Swelling and bruising can cause problems so if the surgeon tells you to wait, then wait. I hope this helps.

Answer: Fish oil probably has little effect on perioperative bleeding.
If your surgeon feels strongly that fish oil creates an operative problem the surgery should be delayed. Personally, I have no problem with perioperative fish oil.

Answer: I Accidentally Took Fish Oil the Day Before Upper and Lower Eyelid Surgery?
Most likely the fish oils won't cause any bleeding problems (only in rare cases) but I usually have patients stop before surgery just to be safe. You certainly don't want any bleeding in a blepharoplasty as this can cause blindness.

Answer: We do not like anything that thins the blood including fish oil.
It sounds like you have had surgery. The risk is increased brusing and swelling. This is more than just an intraoperative hassle. Significant bruising can be vision threatening (rare) but it also cause swelling that will stretch the eyelid and actually affect the outcome of surgery (much more common).

Answer: Fish oil before eyelid surgery
Taking fish oil before eyelid surgery should not affect the final outcome of your surgery or damage anything. You are correct in that it could possibly cause more bleeding and bruising though.
