Fear of packing and IV needle! Rhinoplasty

If the rhinoplasty is purely cosmetic (i.e., there will be no functional surgery on the sinuses or the turbinates) then packing is almost never necessary. Even when packing *is* needed, the old painful gauze tape that we used to use is quite outdated, in my opinion. I haven't used it in 19 years and counting.As for the needle phobia, talk to your surgeon about it. He or she may be able to coordinate a plan with the anesthesia team for some oral sedation (a pill, liquid, etc.) before the I.V. is begun.  In our practice, we have not placed any packing in the nose for over 20 years. Packing is painful and unnecessary. An  Intravenous line is necessary for surgery however a Valium pill can be given ahead of time to reduce anxiety of the needle. Address these concerns with  Your operative surgeon.

Have a personal consultation with your Doctor. Tell him your fears.he will know what to do.Normally during the surgery, you are under IV sedaction, you wont feel nothing.Before  getting your IV, they will give you a relax pill...so you be relaxed. Dont worry too much.RegardsDr Hernandez Pizzoglio
