My daughter had Botox in her hands two weeks ago. How long will the weakness last?

Botox for hyperhidrosis in the palms should not have the side effect of weakening the muscles, as it is injected very superficially. Most likely, your daughter’s Botox injections were placed too deep or the dose was too high. Unfortunately, there is no way to speed up the process of Botox wearing off; your daughter will simply have to wait it out. It may take a week, but could take 3-4 months for the weakness to wear off completely.

Botox can impair the muscles of the hands and that should have been discussed with you prior to injection especially if your daughter is an athlete.  Unfortunately the only thing you can do is wait till the botox wears off in 3-4 months.  It will get better in the next 4-6 weeks and start loosening up more.  Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear of your Botox side effect for excessive sweating of the palms.  Unfortunately this is a complication of injections, and typically the result of injections placed too deeply.  Most patients will see steady improvement in their hand strength starting at about 3-4 weeks, and depending on the amount of Botox placed it may last for a couple of months.
