Would weight gain affect areola reduction results?

Question

I had an unsuccessful areola reduction surgery over a year ago. In the 3 months after the surgery I gained around 40 pounds of fat, could this have caused the surgery to be unsuccessful? I am looking to have the surgery again but am concerned about it being unsuccessful again.

generally speaking, major weight gain will cause skin stretching and it can also affect areola size. That is probably the reason why your surgery didn't succeed.

The skin of the areola is the most stretchy skin of the breast. If weight gained caused an increase in your breast size, then your areolae could have stretched. Permanent sutures will be needed to avoid stretching after revision.

Weight gain can impact the results of your areola reduction surgery if your breasts grew as a result of the weight gain.  Regardless of weight gain or loss, there is a risk that the areola can stretch after the procedure.  I encourage you to speak to your surgeon about the risks and benefits to make an informed decision.
