Was offered a double jaw surgery as a teenager, declined it and now am getting a septorhinoplasty while wanting to correct my profile. My chin is recessed and small. What options do I have?

Answer: Mandibular assessment Your chin projection is reasonably good. This is sometimes called the mentalis region of the mandible. The biggest deficit in projection is further back behind your molars in the body of the mandible. Formal jaw surgery would be a better option since that is where the deficit lies. This is why you have an overbite dental occlusion. On profile pictures, your upper lip has more forward projection than the lower lip even though the lower lip is larger. Chin augmentation, or sliding genioplasty may be helpful to some degree but the actual problem is not in the mental region of your mandible. Consult with oral surgeons or plastic surgeons with cranial facial surgery backgrounds in your community. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
