Hi & thanks for your question.Breast reconstruction is usually covered by health insurance. Check with your insurance company to find out if this is a covered benefit for you. Schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options. Best wishes!
Please provide more details regarding your cancer history (tumor size and position) and treatment (lumpectomy, mastectomy, radiation, chemotherapy etc) as well as standard photos of your breasts (frontal, oblique, and side views). Breast implants are typically high risk in the context of prior radiation therapy. Other strategies like fat grafting may be more appropriate. Insurance is required by law to cover reconstructive breast surgery after cancer. However, appropriate documentation is necessary.
Hello and congratulations on being a 7 year survivor! You absolutely should have insurance coverage for breast reconstruction (breast implants) on both sides. I would recommend consulting with a plastic surgeon in your area that takes your insurance and schedule a consultation. Good luck on your recon journey!
Hello, thank you for your question. Yes even with being 7 year after breast mastectomy for cancer reasons insurance should cover it. Im not sure if they will cover all of the costs so you will need to speak to you plastic surgeon. You would have to get pre approval.
Yes, insurance is required to cover the costs of reconstruction, including implants. If you desire, most companies also cover surgery on the opposite breast to obtain symmetry. Please go visit with a board certified plastic surgeon or breast surgeon who does reconstruction.
As far as I know, breast cancer patients are able to get their breasts reconstructed at any time and insurance covers the surgeries. Many patients choose to delay their reconstruction and I have never had an issue with insurance companies covering procedures for breast cancer survivors. I would schedule an appointment with a surgeon to get more information and to start the process but I do not believe you will have any issues. You will probably need to supply your medical records so you may want to get those before any appointments just to help expedite the process.
