I Have 600cc Saline Implants, how Much Silicon Would I Need to Have Same Size is 600ccs??

Question

I had 600cc saline implants and I went for silicon but my surgeon change for 525g silicon implants I'm not happy I was happy with my size but my surgen's decision was to exchange for smaller ones so I'm going again to look for the same size that I had before but what is the amount of silicon that I have to ask for????

	Theoretically, 600 mL saline breast implants should look about the same as 600 mL silicone breast implants when implanted. However, on a practical level,  I think that you may end up with different &ldquo;looks&rdquo; with the different types of implants. I have found, for example, that silicone gel breast implants usually create a &ldquo;softer&rdquo;, smaller, and more natural &ldquo;looks&rdquo; then an identical sized  saline filled implant.

	Again, for example, if a patient presents looking for a projecting and less "natural" looking breast implant result,  I find that saline breast implants are useful for this purpose.

	I would suggest that you communicate your goals clearly with your plastic surgeon. I prefer  the use of &ldquo;goal&rdquo; pictures.

The size of a saline implant filled to a total volume of 600cc and a silicone gel implant of 600cc should be the same. You mention the size of your saline implants as 600cc, but is that their size or their final fill volume? I ask because many surgeons, myself included, properly "overfill" a saline implant to minimize implant wrinkling and perhaps reduce the rupture rate. In any event, although shapes, contours, projection, and certainly the feel of the saline implant may differ from a silicone gel implant of equal size, the "size" or volume should be equivalent.  By the way, an implant of 600cc is a large and heavy implant, and you would want to be sure that your tissues are thick enough to handle that heavy of an implant. It is well known that large and heavy implants pose more risk of skin and breast tissue stretching and thinning over time, and this can pose problems that are not easily corrected or corrected at all, so be cautious.

Saline and silicone implants are equivalent in volume, the only difference is what is inside of them. If you seek implants to match your previous 600cc saline implants, you should be looking at 600cc silicone implants of the same height profile. You may want to present your surgeon with the exact information regarding your original implants to help make the selection process easier. Also, keep in mind that implant volume is but one of many factors determining your results and a board certified plastic surgeon can help you with this as well.
