Is 40 too old to have buccal fat removed?

Is it a bad idea for a 40 year old to have their buccal fat removed? I wanted to have it done years ago but never went through with it.. now I’m thinking about a neck lift with buccal fat removed but I’ve read to never take fat out of your face...

It is possible for someone to be a suitable candidate for a buccal fat removal procedure at the age of 40, provided their anatomy is suitable and they have goals that can be helped with a buccal fat removal procedure. It will be best to consult a board certified facial plastic surgeon in person and discuss your goals and options after a physical examination.

The decision to remove buccal fat is determined by the need to slim the lower face and not age. In some cases, I remove the buccal fat during a facelift from an external approach. Patients with slim lower faces are not candidates for removal of buccal fat.

The buccal fat pad is a rounded mass of fat in the middle of your cheek. It’s located between facial muscles, in the hollow area beneath your cheekbone. The size of your buccal fat pads affects your face shape.
Everyone has buccal fat pads. However, the size of buccal fat pads can vary greatly.
If you have larger buccal fat pads, you might feel like your face is too round or full.
You can be a candidate for a Buccal Pad removal surgery and there is no age for a buccal pad surgery if your health is good.

A full set of  facial photographs from all angles are going to be required to make a determination about how best to proceed. In our practice we do not recommend buccal fat pad removal. A neck lift procedure accomplishes removing fat above  and below the platysma muscle in the neck in addition to a platysma plasty. No skin removal is usually needed  at age 40.
