Hello all, In the past year, I have suddenly developed bad jowls/nasolabial folds. I can no longer look at myself and feel like I have aged beyond my years. It really affects my self confidence, so I went to a spa where they recommended that I get masseter botox. Unfortunately, while I have seen my jaw area thin out, the jowling is progressively getting worse! I am thinking of saving for a lower facelift. I am wary of losing any more facial fat. I would love professional advice. Thank you!

Answer: Seeking Professional Advice: Severe Jowls at 27, Considering Masseter Botox and Lower Facelift Firstly, it's important to understand that masseter Botox is primarily used to reduce the size of the masseter muscle for patients with bruxism (teeth grinding) or for cosmetic reasons such as facial slimming. It may not directly address the issue of jowling.A lower facelift, on the other hand, is a more direct approach to address sagging skin and fat in the lower part of the face. It can significantly improve the appearance of jowls and provide a more youthful contour. However, like all surgical procedures, it comes with potential risks and complications and the outcome can also be influenced by individual factors such as skin quality, lifestyle, and age.Non-surgical treatments such as dermal fillers or thread lift could be another option to consider. They can provide a temporary improvement in the appearance of jowls by adding volume or lifting the skin. It's crucial to have a thorough consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist to discuss your concerns, review your medical history, and explore the best treatment options for you. They can provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits, risks, and expected outcomes of each procedure. I hope this provides some clarity, and I encourage you to seek professional medical advice.

Answer: Jowling First of all, you are beautiful and comparatively speaking, your jowling is minimal. Shrinking your masseters could actually make your jowling worse. By decreasing the size of your massters, lower face tissue (skin and fat) can become heavier and more pronounced. My recommendations would be lower face tox along the jawline (targeting the platysma) to give you a little lift. Also, perhaps jawline filler to add surface area to the jawline and camouflage/smooth out the jowl area. Other, non-injectable modalities could also be used to tighten the lower face. i.e. Morpheus or SylfirmX.
