Am I having side effects from Kybella 2 weeks later?

I received my second treatment of kybella 12 days ago. I received 2 vials just like I did the first time. The procedure hurt less than the first time but I started feeling as if my throat was closing. I knew my airway was fine but I had difficulty swallowing. This feeling lasted 2 days. A week later I started feeling as if I had rocks in my throat. That feeling is still present and I have a new one today. If I tilt my head back even so much as to wash my hair, I have severe pain in my trachea area

Our practice is in the 99th percentile around the country with Kybella.  What this means is we use more Kybella than most practices....99%.  It is more possible that one during this time of year has a virus.  For Kybella (4cc) to effect the trachea it is unlikely, but if you are having questions, please ask your MD.  I have personally done hundreds of injections and the symptoms above are unseen in my experience.

You should get a check up with an ENT. I would concur this is likely not due to the Kybella, but it may be contributing to an overlying viral issue from the community.Best wishes, Dr. ALDO

Initial pain and swelling are commonly seen after Kybella treatment. The feeling of your throat "closing" maybe related to the swelling you may have had. Some lumpiness is also seen after Kybella treatment as the fat is broken down and can take a few weeks to resolve. I recommend you followup with your injector to determine if any of your current symptoms are related to your Kybella treatment.

The symptoms you are experiencing are concerning but I am not sure if they are due to the Kybella injected 12 days ago. I would see an ENT expert to evaluate your upper airway and would caution you to proceed to the nearest ER if you have noisey breathing, shortness of breath, or difficulty swallowing your secretions. Better to be safe.

Every Specialist will tell you the truth, Belkyra or Kybella has expected outcomes, side effects and EXPECTED recovery. Everyone experiences pain or burning during and after the procedure. 100% of patients bruise or swell. If you don't, it does not work. In some cases swelling may last 2 weeks or more. Nerve damage is seen in 1-3% of cases, it last 3-4 months and is self resolving. Do I still use Belkyra- Kybella?
