I’ve been wanting to do this surgery for well over 25 years... I actually let my mother talk me out of it in 1999 to my regret. I decided once I find an accredited doctor who exceeds everything on my check list that’s all I need. I found Dr. Reisch on Real Self and here I am 9 days Post Op. From the initial consultation, to a second consultation, to the day of surgery and after, he’s been the absolute best! He made me feel completely comfortable and confident I’d made the right choice. Updated on 4 Oct 2018: I went in for my first follow up post op appointment on Tuesday. As always my Dr was patient, thorough, and very pleasant. He removed all the dressings and carefully examined the new breasts. He explained again that the beginning stages they aren’t at their best. They’re still pretty swollen which is visible and you can feel it too. They also have to settle in and take on their shape. I must say “I love the fact that they’re lifted and the areolas are so small.” They also look pretty small! Before surgery my doctor and I discussed sizes, and we both agreed that a “C Cup” is ideal for me. I know it’s too soon to tell but I’ve tried on a few blouses and they’re all too big! I’m going to post pics in my “Fruit of the Loom” sports bra. It’s all cotton, and I think after the bandages and dressings come off an all cotton bra is best. Just my opinion... Updated on 28 Oct 2018: I had my second post op visit at the four week mark. The girls are healing nicely! I had a few sutures poking out which the doctor removed. When I first noticed them I was quite concerned. I sent a text msg to Dr. Reisch asking him about it. He texted me back right away telling me it’s normal and that I shouldn’t worry about it. All of the incision sites are closed and they look pretty thin. I’ve been applying Biocorneum Advanced Scar Treatment twice a day as advised by my doctor. So far all is well! Updated on 15 Jan 2019: I haven’t updated in a while. Here are a few pictures. I first wore this dress for my birthday back in 2014. At the time I remember thinking “damn these things have to go.” The after (same dress) picture was December 2018 for my annual holiday gift exchange. What a difference! I feel so much better.!!! I hope the pictures upload properly.
There are no cons.. everything was very positive.. Spotless facility, great staff very caring..they care about you before and after the surgery.. I highly recommend Long Island Plastic Surgical Group..I can hardly express my feelings about everything that took place at the clinic.. Again I can only say it was a pleasant experience overall.
For the past 10 years, I have been focused on my stomach and wanting to achieve a flat stomach with diet and exercise. Despite consistently working out and eating clean,my stomach would not change. Every year this would become my main fitness goal. I was determined and stubborn that I would not go through surgery to achieve my goal. My family and co workers were tired of my goal and suggested to consider plastic surgery as I was obviously unsuccessful at accomplishing this goal. I realized I could not achieve It on my own and began to research Abdominoplasty via Google and came into real self. I began my search in April and decided that this would be the summer that I would have a flat tummy. I initially considered going to the Dominican Republic but rejected it due to lack of after care and follow up after the procedure. I carefully reviewed several plastic surgeons on real self. I went through six consultations. I had mix feelings andI felt confused. Some plastic surgeons recommended a mini tummy tuck while others suggested a full tummy tuck. I also have a diastasis recti that needed to be repaired. I wanted to have a mini tummy tuck but deep down I realized I would not be happy and satisfy with the results. I was determined that I would pick the right surgeon for my surgery. Despite my numerous consultations I knew I was yet to find the surgeon who I could trust with my procedure and give me the results that I wanted. I immediately knew that Dr. Richard G. Reish from New York Plastic Surgical Group will be the surgeon to perform my procedure. He took his time during the consultation to answer all my questions and concerns. I did not feel rushed. He demonstrated empathy, genuine caring and high level of professionalism. I always follow my instinct and after the consultation decided to leave a deposit and called my husband to tell him that I finally found my surgeon yeah!! I am not an easy person to please and Dr. Reish met all my standards: highly skilled and knowledgeable, patience, humble, easily accessible ( he gave me his direct cell number and answered all my questions) and caring and kind. A huge concern for me was the scar. He uses a special technique to make the scar very low and thin. My surgery was scheduled for August 11, 2016. I had an abdominosplasty, breast augmentation and lipo of back and abdomen. Today is day three after my procedure. I am feeling wonderful, no pain. I am only taking Tylenol . My husband is taking wonderful card of me.
Early summer 2020, I decided to “treat” myself to liposuction. In spite of my best efforts, working out 5-6 days a week, my figure left a lot to be desire. I felt confident in surgery having had a tummy tuck subsequent to a C-Section around age 40. I did a fair amount of Online research to decide what type of liposuction would be best for me. My major areas of concern were my waistline and back. I spent hours on YouTube, watching through others’ experiences. I researched procedures and doctors on Real Self, and finally set up a consultation. I will only refer to my surgeon as Dr G. After a virtual consultation, we met in person and he thoroughly explained his recommendation: 360-Vaser Liposuction which he believed would give me a more desirable figure. He did recommend a Brazilian butt lift, but I decided against that due to recovery time expectations. I informed my doctor of an upcoming trip to Costa Rica (which was occurring about 5-6 weeks post surgery, and he assured me that I would be healed by then). I have to say the worst part of the liposuction was being put under general anesthesia.. Despite feeling loopy, the pain/discomfort was manageable. I felt as though I had gone through 13 weeks of Marines Boot Camp all at once, but I never really had to take anything more than Tylenol for discomfort. I was driving in two days. It was within two weeks, after my drains had been removed, that I noticed what appeared to be a hollow pocket between my breasts that sounded as though it was filled with air when I pressed on it. I took a video and sent it to my surgeon, who assured me that it was nothing to worry about. I kept an eye on it, but was generally happy with how my body was looking. Though still about 15 pounds overweight, I could see a waist line. As soon as I was cleared, I went back to working out. I went to Costa Rica with new bathing suit in hand and was joyfully anticipating revisions to further contour my body once my doctor approved me. In September is when I began to notice what felt like tracks under the skin of my abdomen. In addition, I began to feel sharp pains that ran from one of those subcutaneous tracks to my left bikini line. It would hurt when I moved in certain ways and I began to develop a very large, dark mark between my hip and pubis with the skin texture becoming scaly. Again, I sent my surgeon a photo only to be told it was likely fat necrosis, a common occurrence after plastic surgery. The masseuse who was doing my lymphatic drainage massages had concerns, pointing out it was hot and inflamed. It eventually burst with copious amounts of pus draining out. Once it was drained, the sharp pains I had been feeling, resolved. Again, I informed my doctor. Fast forward through the next 3-4 months during which I continued to develop abscesses on my bikini line, my hip and abdomen. One of the liposuction incisions on my lower back reopened only to drain more pus. There were times when my abdomen would be so inflamed, I could not fit into my pants. I did go back to my surgeon who excised a few, but seemed genuinely stumped by what was happening to me. There is nothing more frustrating than to be undergoing a medical crisis, only to have the doctor to whom you’ve entrusted your care look at you perplexedly and basically shrug. That led me to do my own research. I realized I likely had Mycobacterium Fortuitum. My surgeon advised me to see an Infectious Disease specialist. Because Mycobacterium is a slow growing bacterium, it took six weeks to get a diagnosis solidified. I was started on Doxycycline. Two months later, I developed a mass in my right breast that was so large I could not lie face down. While I had my suspicions it was all related to this experience, I went for a mammogram and my ultrasound technician’s concern did have me wonder if I might have breast cancer. The radiologist was brought in and I was brought back in the next day for a biopsy. When the doctor punctured the mass for the biopsy, it turned out to be another abscess. He syringed out as much as possible and informed me the abscess was deep enough that it never would have burst on its own. In my last conversation with the plastic surgeon, I told him that I didn’t think I would be able to fully heal until a more thorough cleaning of these pockets was done. I can still recall his reassurances that he felt very bad this was happening to me and “I want you to know I’m here with you.”Well, that’s not really how it turned out because in order to do that would have required me to go into hospital and suddenly, it became a matter of my insurance coverage. I was told by his secretary that they were not in my network so I would have to pay about $5,000. That was not something I was able or willing to do. It is now about 3-4 months later and I am with a new infectious disease doctor who has me on two very strong antibiotics. While his initial recommendation was infusion antibiotics, because I have an insanely high deductible, I would have had to pay $300 daily until I paid $5000. The oral meds seem to be working as I’ve not developed new abscesses. However, all of this has come at a price. I have not been able to exercise for several weeks (I’m currently on week 6 of antibiotics), as my joints are always painful, a side effect of the antibiotics. The antibiotics also can make me dizzy, light headed and nauseated. The ID informed me it will likely be at least four months before I can stop the meds. So, what did this experience cost me? The surgery itself seemed quite reasonable at $11,000. However, add to that the trip to the ER when two abscesses because so inflamed and painful, the testing for the Mycobacterium, the medications, the CT scan to determine if there were further abscesses, the biopsy and the monthly specialist visits which include kidney/liver function testing because these antibiotics can cause renal/liver failure, the cost has been much greater. That is just the actual monetary cost. In reality, the cost to my self esteem has been much greater. I look worse now than I did pre liposuction. I have several areas of hyperpigmentation on my abdomen and bikini line from where abscesses developed and burst. I am mortified for anyone to see my body (doctors, husband, daughter). And I never heard from my surgeon’s office again. I thought I was doing the smart thing, going to a NY doctor for my surgery. Medical tourism, while cheaper, carried so much risk, in my opinion. Make no mistake, I am not against plastic surgery, and I anticipate that once I am done with the antibiotics and have waited 6-12 months, I likely will find a new surgeon to correct many things However, I hope this serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering liposuction. I am not a litigious person and have no desire to sue the surgeon. Risk of infection is a possibility with any type of surgery. I told him as such. What I had hoped for only was to be made whole and for him to help in my recovery. Know what your surgeon’s policies are in the event something like this happens to you. See what your insurance’s policy is in terms of coverage should something like this happen. Plastic surgery is a wonderful tool to help you feel more confident. And it has a very ugly side that can jump out and scare you if you have not anticipated it. My desire for a tummy tuck started 28 years ago, but rekindled 6 months ago after a 9 year abusive marriage. I went to Dr. Reish (Long Island Surgical) because of his expertise in minimal incision tummy tucks and he was in my city (New York). He was actually my 2nd choice. But he quickly won me over at the consultation, because of his friendly and warm smile and caring demeanor. I opted in to having him do my surgery and paid my $1000 deposit. We booked my surgery date for 4/25/17. My pre-op was scheduled for April 4th. Because Dr. Reish's office only participates with one surgery financing company in which I did not get approved for, my only option was to raise the money. Also, Dr. Reish's office requires the balance of your surgery payment on the day of your pre-op, no exceptions. Therefore, prior to my pre-op appointment, I notified Dawn, the patient coordinator and let her know I was running into a financial crunch and would not have the balance by the pre-op date and asked if there were any other options. There weren't any. She rescheduled my surgery for May 19th, with pre-op being April 2. I had most of my money except $3,000 of the $11,000 that I owed, and assured Dawn that I would have the last $3,000 within the week. I begged her to ask the Dr. or the powers that be, if they could please allow me to have my pre-op and I would have my money by the next week; I just needed 1 more week to get the last $3,000. I was told flat out no. I was then told if I would give another $1,000 they could secure me a date for June 8th which was a whole month later than I really wanted to have surgery. I really don't think it's fair to require me give an additional deposit. I was told if I don't give the additional $1,000 deposit I would lose my first $1,000 deposit. I am thoroughly disappointed that this whole experience just boiled down to the money only. And now I am out $1,000 and the struggle I began with was just exacerbated by Dr. Reish's office.
