Lesson Learned

I had a lower Face and Neck Lift almost 18 months ago at Dr. Barr's office. I have noticed that any negative reviews from his patients are met with lengthy angry personal attacks in the responses from his office which may be discouraging those of us who do not have totally positive results. My results were disappointing. I have a large lump and depression on the right temple. I have what appears to be a Cobra deformity at the top of my neck under my jaw. It is a big focal point depression. There is drooping skin hanging either side of it. My platysma bands are returning quickly. My cheeks have dropped and I do have my marionette lines back again. My ears are very uncomfortable and feel like they are being pulled on with a lot of pressure extending to under my jaw. This wouldn't bother me as much if the pulling was upward. But it is downward. When I brought these issues up Dr. Barr was annoyed and responded that he saw no problems. In my last post op report (that I had requested), he stated that there is no pleasing me. The plastic surgeon (who specializes in face and neck) that I recently had a consult with, acknowledged that my concerns are valid and said that he has done a few revisions for patients who have previously had their facial cosmetic work done in Dr Barr's office. Dr. Barr apparently does a lot of cosmetic work on breasts. I see almost no face and neck lift reviews by former patients and I should have researched further and had my surgery performed by a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in face and neck...lesson learned.

Lesson Learned as results even sadder.

An update that I would like to post is that as my facelift of 17 months ago continues to drop, there is no less pressure, mouth being pulled downward, extensive numbness, sides of face, lower cheeks, ears and under jaw remain. I have noticed festoons swelling on my upper cheeks. This is difficult to show in a photo due to lighting. I did previously have bags under my eyes which I thankfully did not have Dr. Barr address and am going to have done in Toronto. But I did not previously have filled up malar crescents but I noticed them after the surgery and they are getting larger as my cheeks drop and jowls return quickly. I'm trying to figure out why the constant pressure and pull of my facelift has always felt downward not upward. The incision with lump is dropping lower and evident near hairline on right side. Photos right after surgery indicated a side pull, no upward pull so will be curious to find out revision surgeon's comments.

Nerve damage so depressing and worries me in addition to continued swelling after 20 months..

In retrospect, when I had asked about extreme swelling post surgery particularly on the right side,, It causes tightness and pressure all of the time. The area under my jaw constantly pulls downward on my face. Dr. Barr's nurse had commented that it was the side that he had worked on the most. The day after surgery he had asked me to make a pucker face which I thought odd but in retrospect he was assessing for nerve damage I think. Well as time goes on, the side he worked on the least (altho' dropped and not improved from before surgery) has a normal line with some cheek definition remaining. The right side that he worked on first (and the most apparently), is like a round swollen disc with absolutely no definition. The fat appears redistributed in an odd unnatural way. My right temple now indents with no padding over the bone as the fat was redistributed low and the weight of it due to nerve damage that has not improved makes my face droop even more. The numbness, (mostly on the right side with some loss on left) is permanent. That is what the plastic surgeon who I had a consult with in Toronto gave as his opinion. I would like some revision, as minor as possible to make the obvious issues less distressing but my experience with Dr. Barr has made me afraid of making things worse.

I end up with chronic pain and deformities that I never had. I could not regret more.
