Hello! I'm a 29 year old mother of 2. I intially thought that my pain was associated with my weight. I'm 5'3 and weighed 257 pounds. So I started to lose weight. I'm currently 209 and the pain hasn't eased, its actually has gotten worst. I went on May 20th, 2014 for my consultation. I was nervous because I had looked at surgeries on YouTube. I don't know why I did that. But the appointment went smoothly. I watched a short video and looked at pictures of other breast reduction patients while I waited for the PA to come in. When they came in they took pics of my breast, front and both sides. She also did some measurements and advised me that they would most likely take off about 1-1.5 pounds. I'm currently a D-DD cup. So I'm hoping that will take me to a C cup. She asked me questions about pain in my neck, shoulders, back, and breast. Which I have pain in the shoulders, neck, and back, and skin irritation under my breast. She also asked other general questions about medications and gave a run down of what would happen before and after surgery. I'm currently waiting for an approval from Peach State Health Plan. They say it takes 2-4 weeks. Has any of you ladies had any experience with Peach State Health Plan or Georgia Medicaid? If so any information would be greatly appreciated.

This site is great for making friends and learning from each other! You'll love it! Usually your health pan can direct you to the Coverage policies that they use to make the determination. Don't be discouraged if it's initially denied, Usually the doctor has simply forgotten to send in some piece of paperwork that they require. I used to work in authorizations so I consider myself an expert on the topic haha! Good luck to you!

Lol! I have learned a lot from the ladies on the forum. I have also set some of my fears aside and becoming more patient to receive my approval. Thanks I will keep you informed.

I'm pretty much going through the same process, I'm from California, and I have medi~ cal. They typically don't cover breast reductions, but because I am a 40H and only 5ft, and have lots of back problems and pain, the insurance authorized me to see a surgeon....I go tomorrow...yay : )

Still Waiting

Hey everyone. I'm still waiting to be approved for my procedure. I have also gotten my bra size remeasured and I'm actually a DDD. With that being said, I have a few questions. How soon after being approved is surgery performed? How often after surgery did you use vitamin e oil or any other ointment for scaring. Also, are mammograms performed on all patients? Meaning I'm 29 and they are normally performed on 40 year old women. I'm becoming more and more anxious to get a reply from the insurance company. Like I mentioned they say it takes 2-4 weeks but Peach States says 14 days. The 14th day will be June 10th. I'm going to try to keep myself busy until then and continue to workout. Hopefully, I will be under 200 if and when I'm approved. Finding out will be the best 30th birthday gift yet (which is June 15th). Well, that's all for now. I will be in touch.

I would call and ask your PS that you will have - if a Mammogram is Required before they will do your surgery.

Thanks! It got hard at times but I'm still going. I know if I lost the amount of weight that I have, I know anyone can do it. Good luck on losing that 30/40 pounds and congrats on your surgery. I'm trying to continue to stay positive. I'm also trying to keep myself busy this week so that I can keep my mind off of everything this week until next Monday. I will keep everyone updated.

Many people don't understand that loosing weight doesn't always help in our breast. Good for you in dropping the weight, I'm sure it will help! Good Luck with everything!

Losing weight didn't help me at all and I thought the pain was associated with my weight. Thank you for your support.

yes. some doctors need to understand this. OK to suggest weight loss for surgical safety but wrong to suggest it may do away with the need for the surgery.

Well, I'm glad my weight didn't hinder me from being approved. Maybe because I lost a good amount of weight before hand. But I do think that it is wrong for them to say you have to lose weight. It's hard to workout when you have that pressure pulling on your back, shoulders, and neck.

what doctor are you going to I can't find a doctor in Georgia who would even take plans like that I have Medicare so far I have been out of luck

Hello everyone! I'm so excited! I got the call today that I was approved. It took only 2 weeks to get my reply. My surgery date is set for July 16th and my pre-op is on July 2nd. As of right now I'm just excited and less nervous than before. Now I'm going to be obsessed with what am I going to look like. I wish it was happening sooner, but this will give me time to be under 200 pounds, another goal I have for my 30th birthday (I'm 10 pounds away, I gained 1 pound last week). Well that is all for now..... I guess I will read more reviews to see how to prep myself for my transition.

How long after your consultation did it take for you to get approval from peach state and did the doctors office call to let you know or did you receive a letter? Tia:)
