Getting SHR (super hair removal) over a 10 year old tattoo (standard ink, not colors). Will it make it go away? (photos)

You should not use the hair removal laser in the area of the tattoo. You were lucky you weren't burned. The hair removal laser is the wrong wavelength and pulse duration to treat tattoos safely. You must not do this again!

Hello, thank you for your question and for including a photo.  Laser hair reduction is probably being done with a large spot size, at least 18mm I'm guessing.  That large spot size is not meant to target ink, the laser, depending on what wave length is being used will definitely see the ink.  It is not safe to treat over a tattoo with the energy/spot size used for LHR.  It can actually cause a burn.  It is best not to treat skin with a tattoo on it.  If you want to remove the ink, this is a completely different spot size and energy used, energy is directed to the fine lines of the tattoo.  The way a laser gets rid of a tattoo, is it shatters the ink into tiny particles that your body then absorbs.  It is a series of treatments done 4-8 weeks apart depending on the device being used.Good Luck!
