I plan to have laser hair removal for brazilian bikini, arms, legs, happy trail and underarms. If I start in early March, I would plan to stop on arms/legs after 2 sessions and resume after summer since I'll be in the sun. Would this gap set back progress and is there a benefit to starting now (some hair reduction)? Also, how can we synchronize treatments if these areas grow at different rates (is it better to split sessions)?
Answer: Laser Hair Removal Thank you for your question in regards to laser hair removal. As long as you follow proper post-care instructions, you do not have to completely stop laser treatments during the summer. It is best to avoid direct sun light 2 weeks before a treatment and 2 weeks post treatment to avoid complications such as blistering and hyper/hypo-pigmentation. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps!

Answer: LHR and Sun You can start with bikini and underarms and continue this treatment even in the summer time as those areas are protected from the sun. Arms and legs are common areas that are being exposed to the sun, and with each session you should see a decrease in hair growth and thickness of the hair. Have you had this procedure before? Are you going to a reputable place that is being supervised by a physician and employs highly trained and experienced laser technicians? If so, they should be able to design the plan and work around your schedule. Summer time is not a contraindication to having LHR. You need to have an expert consultation where an individualized plan will be design for you and explained in detail. Hope this helps and good luck. Best, Dr.Avaliani

Answer: Laser Hair removal break for summer? Thank you for your question. Most clients require six to ten sessions for optimal results. Areas such as the back, legs and arms usually take 6 to 8 weeks and bikini from 4 to 6 weeks apart. It is quite safe as long as a correct wavelength of the laser is used and also if you are not too exposed to the sun. I recommend you find an experienced physician to determine the safest treatment plan for you. All the best!

Answer: Laser Hair removal and Summertime Laser hair removal can be done all year long if proper precautions are taken. If you have been exposed to the sun, you must tell your doctor so changes can be made in the settings that he or she is using. I advise my patients to stay out of the sun for a week before and a week after a laser treatment. I also advise my patients that they should be using sun block regularly, even if they aren't getting any hair removal. If you choose to take a break during the summer, you will not experience a set back. Any hair follicles that have been treated will not return. The growth that you will see are new active hair follicles. If you start your treatments before the summer, you should have less shaving to do during the summer! Regards, Dr. D

Answer: Taking a break in the summer from laser hair removal As long as you're using a safe wavelength of laser hair removal, and don't have a tan during treatment (e.g. no sun/tanning salon or excellent sun protection for 1 week prior and 1 week after treatment), and you use a longer wavelength like 1064 NdYag, you'll have no problems. Your treatments will be roughly every 6-8 weeks.
