Can CoolSculpting be done after having had lipo in an area? (Photo)

Question

I had lipo done on my abdomen about a year ago. I like the results but am not in love with it. I did go back to my surgeon in regards to a revision and he advised that I did not have adequate fat to be removed. I did also have a second opinion who advised the same. I do lose weight for the summer giving me a flatter belly but I do notice a tiny bit of unevenness. So my question is can Coolsculpting be done after having lipo in an area. Would I be able to achieve a flatter even belly?

It is absolutely safe to have CoolSculpting after liposuction, provided you have fully healed from your liposuction and your final results are now visible. This takes about 4 to 6 months. After this time, you can work with your dermatologist to either use CoolSculpting or Kybella to eliminate the little pockets of fat that are making your abdomen look uneven. Please find a board-certified dermatologist who is expert at sculpting the body.

Hi,Coolsculpting can be done after lipo if there is adequate amount of fat left over. Coolsculpting is an excellent form of non-invasive  fat reduction for the right patient. Some applicators take 1 or 2 hours but the new advantage applicators take only 35 minutes and have significantly less risk for delayed onset pain (especially in the abdomen). Results are seen at 2 months and typically 1-3 treatments will be necessary on each area to achieve ideal results. The number of treatments depends on the amount of fat there and the patient's goals.  There is not downtime and the results can be impressive in the right patient.  We also use the Zimmer Z-wave for improved patient comfort and added results. The best candidates are those who are in pretty good shape with areas of stubborn fat that won't go away no matter what.

CoolSculpting removes about 20% of fat from an area at a time. It should be able to help even out your liposuction results – particularly if the CoolMini is used to target some of the lumpiness. Afterward, I'd recommend radial pulsed therapy with Zimmer Z-Wave to help disperse the remaining fat and make your results more uniform. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist to see if you are a candidate for CoolSculpting and Zimmer Z-Wave.

Thank you for your question. Yes, Coolsculpting can be done after liposuction. It is recommend to wait at least 6 months after liposuction before having Coolsculpting. This is to make sure you are fully healed and all swelling and bruising has subsided. I recommend having a consultation with an expert to determine if you are a good candidate for treatment. Coolsculpting can be used after liposuction but I would wait  for 6 months for the full results of liposuction. Kybella/ Belkyra might be an option in the future to fix small pockets of fat left over after liposuction.

We routinely treat patients with CoolSculpting who aren't satisfied with the results of a liposuction procedure they received elsewhere.  CoolSculpting produces a very smooth and natural look, whereas Liposuction can often leave lumps and bumps that look uneven. There are a variety of ways we can treat the uneven areas that liposuction has left behind.  We would have to assess you in person to actually see and feel the areas you desire to treat. During this assessment, we are able to decide which applicators would be appropriate, and how many treatments would be needed to achieve optimal results. If it was determined that you are a good candidate for CoolSculpting, I believe that you could achieve the smooth, even tummy you desire.

Great question Lulu10! Coolsculpting is fantastic for evening out lumps & bumps post liposuction. I myself did this at my office after a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) & am very happy with the results. Unfortunately, liposuction often does not leave the smooth figure we desire & Coolsculpting has become a wonderful modality to noninvasively fix the inconsistencies. I recommend you see an experienced Coolsculpting provider. They should provide a free comprehensive consult that lists the number, type & location of treatments they recommend & cost. If they don't, find a different provider. It's not necessary to see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon for Coolsculpting as any physician can provide excellent services--it's very physician dependent. I am a family physician, but now do aesthetics exclusively & require excellence from my staff. Good luck!
