BBL: How long before surgery do I have to quit smoking weed?

There is no documented effect of the use of marijuana on BBL and fat graft viability. Tobacco is discouraged due to the nicotine component which leads to vasoconstriction and impaired healing. This extends to all nicotine replacement therapies as well.However, that is not to say that marijuana use is without drawback as there are well known and documented pulmonary affects. There may also be impacts on healing and graft take, however, this is less clear and to my knowledge has not been borne out in the literature.I recommend, as with tobacco, 6-8 weeks of cessation prior to surgery.As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon (ABPS).

Thanks for your question.These issues are surgeon dependent. We recommend stopping marijuana use 3 to 4 weeks before surgery, and you can resume 3 to 4 weeks after surgery.Please always consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.

Smoking in general is bad for healing. I prefer that my patients stop at least 2-4 weeks prior and avoid restarting during the early post-op period.
