Why does an area of my stomach look like this after lipo for a BBL? (Photo)

Question

I had a BBL 3 weeks ago. The area above my navel has this ugly wrinkly appearance with large open pores/holes. Will this go away as the swelling continues to go down? Is there something I can do to prevent this from getting worse? Thanks

Thank you for your question. Healing after liposuction k is usually pretty straight forward.  There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery.  The later phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens.  It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient. The area shown in the photo shows signs of swelling and bruising which is what's causing your skin to look like that. Give it some time to heal and everything will go back to normal. If you are still concerned you should address this isue to your specific surgeon so that he or she can take a look.

Hello, and thanks for the question and photo. First, it is still fairly early after your procedure, and it is normal to have areas of swelling or firmness. It may take a few more weeks, or even several months for all of this to resolve and soften.This area in particular shows more significant edema (swelling) within the skin, creating what we call a "peau d'orange " effect (orange peel), and, again, is not unusual following liposuction. There also seems to be slight discoloration beneath the skin, suggesting a possible small amount of additional bruising which could mean some blood collected in the area. This could be a small hematoma, which would also explain the skin edema. You may also feel some additional firmness in the area if it is in fact a small hematoma. This too should resolve with time. Warm compresses using a washcloth (no heating pads of microwave heated pads) can be done several times a day to increase blood flow to the area as well as some gentle massage ( or more specialized lymphatic massage) to help things get better faster.I hope this helps.
